El camino de Alessandro Michele

Alessandro Michele's Journey

The history of recent fashion features talents who have traced their dreams and designs in iconic houses. Get to know one of them.

He is Italian. His name has graced iconic brands including Gucci, Fendi, and Valentino. He rubbed shoulders with the great Karl Lagerfeld and even winked at cinema.

Yes, we are talking about designer Alessandro Michele. If you are passionate about fashion, we have prepared a series of points you should know about this creative who—just over 50 years old—continues to have a very active career.

The beginning

Born in Italy, our protagonist studied design at the Accademia di Costume e di Moda. His professional path began in the early 90s, working for Les Copains, an Italian knitwear brand. Years later, he joined the ranks of the renowned Fendi brand. His mission? To create spectacular accessories. While at this design house, he had the opportunity to work in collaboration with the great Karl Lagerfeld.

Gucci, his big break

Hired by Tom Ford, this Italian joined Gucci in 2002. His objective was to create leather accessories, standing out for his impeccable good taste and comprehensive vision. This led him to oversee jewelry, footwear, and even home decor pieces.

However, it wasn't until 2015 that Alessandro became creative director. Yes, his ideas took center stage from the pinnacle of the great Gucci. He remained in that position from that year until 2022.

The essence? While elegance remained present, Gucci began to embrace looks that could well be understood as androgynous. His time at the brand was characterized by experimentation, and he was even responsible for designing one of the most iconic handbags, the Dionysus bag.

From cinema to ceramics

His passion for the processes and aesthetics of ceramics led him to find inspiration in that world, as well as to reflect it in his time at Gucci. His fondness for director Stanley Kubrick's films even led him to create campaigns inspired by works such as "The Shining" and "A Clockwork Orange."

Valentino, his new home

The designer was appointed creative director of the Valentino fashion house in April 2024. Since then, the world's eyes have been on him in total anticipation.

To date, this creative has already surprised with various releases, including ready-to-wear collections as well as haute couture. A fantasy!
