Fashion collection

Dolls: a market that is not a game, but a stylish investment.

Collecting is a true phenomenon that, thanks to digital platforms, has managed to manifest itself in its entirety and on a global scale in recent years. Fashion is a sector that is part of this universe and among the ways in which it is present, there is one very particular one: dolls.

According to CNN in Spanish, in the first quarter of 2024 alone, adults who collect toys spent a total of 1.5 billion dollars. A good part of these purchases are destined for the natural doll market, with toy companies offering exclusive lines for collectors.

Yes, dolls that are not aimed at children, but at adults who find in these pieces a true object of desire to collect: endearing characters from childhood or characters that have a meaning in adult life.

Fashion is a vital part of the creative discourse surrounding these “toys.” Through social networks like Instagram, buyers can learn about the designers of these dolls or their looks, thanks to illustrations or figurines that detail the characteristics of the dress, shoes and other accessories that will accompany the dolls.

These dolls are usually limited editions (between 1,000 and 5,000 pieces worldwide), which ends up generating great excitement among collectors and the desire to obtain the dolls before they reach resale platforms such as eBay.

This dynamic results in the amount at which the dolls are sold being practically exceeded by up to 300% or more of the original price.

As we said at the beginning of these lines, fashion is a highly relevant topic in the desire to buy. And the collections regularly have special themes related to this industry: from the fantasy of a story to seeing characters outside of their own movie, in settings far from their story, such as red carpets or even other settings that expand their fantasy.

On the other hand, an exciting meeting point between doll collection and fashion lies in the designers or high fashion firms that generate collaborations with toy brands. In our country, names such as Benito Santos and Kris Goyri have recently joined this beautiful reality.

If you are a fashion designer, perhaps an excellent business opportunity is to make clothes - independently or as part of these large corporations - for dolls that are valued at thousands of dollars.
