The legendary Suzy Menkes
Share
Fashion journalist, global authority and unique personality.
Before the speed of social media, the abundance of smartphones or the presence of bloggers, there was a group of communicators who - with a foundation in journalism, notebook in hand, analog cameras and a clinical eye - became respectable communicators of fashion.
Suzy Menkes is part of the select group. The news is that, decades after her debut, this icon of the industry has been able to make her opinion count and, of course, has made clear her adaptation to the new forms of communication with audiences. Suffice it to say that her Instagram account exceeds 700 thousand followers (discover it here ).
But who is she and why is she considered important within the industry? Well, Suzy is British and her first steps in the world of letters were taken at the 'Varsity' newspaper of the University of Cambridge, serving as its editor in 1963.
Since then, her career has included multiple positions and content for media such as: The Times, The Evening Standard, The Independent, among others, for example, a prominent role as Fashion Editor at The International Herald Tribune (from 1988 to 2014).
This led her to consolidate a valuable, honest and unreserved opinion, of course, seasoned with a highly recognizable look that catches the eye from the front row at countless fashion shows she has attended (a peculiar hairstyle that cannot go unnoticed); yes, the greatest and most surprising designers have had her reviews and chronicles.
That path led her to become an editor at Vogue International from 2014 to 2020, a year that would also see the start of her famous podcast “Creative Conversations With Suzy Menkes” with interviews with various equally important figures.
Yes, a journalist as solid as she is loved by thousands around the world.
