Rediscover haute couture

Great designers you might have forgotten. Discover their place in the world's most respected fashion universe.

If history is concerned, fashion has a lot to tell. One of the most fascinating topics in this creative industry is haute couture, that level within the market pyramid that is placed at the top.

The highest and perhaps one of the most respected. For this reason, today we dedicate this space to some of the pioneering figures who, with the passage of time, are worth remembering so that their legacy remains more than alive.

Get to know them.

Charles Frederick Worth

If you are a fashion design student, his name may seem familiar to you. If you are a fashion enthusiast, you should know him. This British designer, based in France, was known as the father of haute couture. Born in 1825 and died in 1895, enough time to earn his place in history:  he established the first house of this type of fashion at number 7 rue de la Paix, in Paris.

Madeleine Vionnet

One of the most representative women in the fashion universe. Considered among the best dressmakers in all of Europe, she was a pioneer thanks to the revolutionary "bias-cut" dress. Yes, that meant a radical change in women's fashion, free from constraints and corsets. She opened her own design house on Rue de Rivoli with the name 'Vionnet' around 1912. This Frenchwoman died in 1975.

Pierre Balmain

One of haute couture's creative minds, famed for redefining feminine elegance after World War II. The style? Structured silhouettes and, above all, very defined waists. In 1945 he founded his own fashion house, the year Vogue magazine catapulted him thanks to the publication of his work. His clients included great women from entertainment, society, and even European royalty. Yes, a French designer who became an icon.
