Historical garment

Everyone has one in their closet: the jacket.

An outer garment with sleeves and open at the front, which reaches below the hip. This is the (formal) definition given to a jacket by the Royal Spanish Academy.

Also known as a windbreaker or jacket, this garment has been a wardrobe favorite for decades and decades for both men and women.

Yes, its name contains part of its history and -without fear of being wrong- its shape contains a good part of its evolution. Here we explain it to you.

The origin

Although it is a timeless piece, the birth of the jacket is not necessarily a very positive one. It is said that during the Second World War, pilots and military personnel in general began to use wool-lined jackets made of leather to ensure durability as well as a warm temperature.

On the other hand, the birth of this piece also had several variations. Even in France, it became popular among peasants for its durability and was later used in other contexts, as well as materials (jacket, from the French jaquette).

The evolution

The jacket has experienced many important moments, dressing personalities who became icons of popular culture or simply appearing on the urban scene from the shop windows of different decades.

Who doesn't remember Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson wearing it in their iconic colors?

Or perhaps the relationship of this fashionable garment among motorcyclists and the lifestyle that screams freedom or rebellion.

Yes, the jacket has accompanied all that and much more.

Its weight in the market

Nowadays, it can be found designed and manufactured in a wide variety of materials; with or without textures, shoulder pads, colors, combinations or even presented with variations for all ages.

In conclusion? Jackets seem eternal and will continue to be around to express the style of future generations.
