Fashion magazines as a platform to recognize and celebrate multiple personalities. We explain why.

Since fashion magazines emerged decades ago, they have served as a means of communication to disseminate not only the work of designers, models, photographers, or entrepreneurs in this creative industry.

They have also been a platform for giving visibility to women and men who excel in other fields.

Before reflecting on the reasons behind this, let's learn a little about the history of this type of publication and its impact on society.

The origin of fashion magazines

There are printed publications dating back as far as the 18th century, all of them European. The goal? To offer the reader a series of figures and patterns to follow when making garments.

This type of editorial product was extremely important in the past because it was an effective way to discover "trends," although in reality it responded to the need to create appropriate clothing for everyday wear or for special occasions.

In countries like America, these European magazines arrived as true treasures, adapted in sewing workshops to meet the needs of users seeking style, but also functional clothing for a climate or a social context different from that of Europe.

The representation of women

These magazines, also known as women's magazines, gradually expanded their content. In addition to topics related to the world of textiles and fashion, for several years they covered beauty, cooking, and household activities. Topics that for decades were intended to be of interest to a female audience.

Time passed, and with it, new interests emerged, as did the collapse of stereotypes. Magazines offered a new range of content, such as academics, sexuality, entertainment, and politics. While fashion was the publication's mainstay, the topics diversified.

This was reflected in specialized publications, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Cosmopolitan, for years until recently.

Digital evolution

Massive access to the internet in the late 1990s, inevitable globalization, and the craze for social media at the beginning of the last decade have, of course, led the media to focus on their digital version.

However, within the fashion industry, there are publishing groups that refuse to disappear from their print offerings.

Fashion, like lifestyle topics, continues to find in print editions a true object of desire that sometimes even becomes collectible. That said, fashion also manifests itself in both digital and print media.

Fashion, an attractive universe

After this brief review and reflection on how fashion magazines have reflected the actions of women and men throughout time, we can highlight that they have not only given prominence to figures from the industry in their pages.

In other words, fashion magazines have also been a showcase for prominent figures in different fields, including beauty and even politics.

And fashion, as a creative universe, attracts the attention of millions of people who are drawn to its "magic." Fashion is a cultural phenomenon that manifests itself powerfully, and through it, other spheres have made their presence felt by countless readers.

Today, through fashion editorials and through the lenses of renowned photographers, powerful singers, actresses with millions of followers, and even professionals who have dedicated their lives to social causes, they also strengthen their discourse.

In conclusion, fashion is a means to connect with the entire world.
