Harrods: Histórico punto de moda

Harrods: Historic fashion point

The store was founded in 1849 in the city of London, England.

One of the most iconic shopping centres in the world exists in the heart of England. Yes, London, a powerful international fashion capital, continues to be a relevant tourist spot for those who still enjoy shopping.

This is Harrods, the department store that reminds us that the shopping experience is important and despite the craze for electronic habits, interest in physical stores is strengthened when there is added value for the consumer.

But what makes Harrods so attractive and why has it received up to 15 million visitors a year? Well, let's find out together with the following points:

History and interesting facts

The shop was opened by Charles Henry Harrods, a wholesale tea merchant, in 1834. However, it was not until 1849 that the company was officially founded from its new home in Knightsbridge, thus becoming a symbol of British elegance for the whole world.

In 1883 the store suffered a fire, so it was soon modified on a large scale.

By 1898, Harrods was the site of the first escalators in England. It is said that to encourage visitors to ride them, they were given a glass of brandy at the end of the ride.

The atmosphere

There is no doubt that this space exudes luxury. The decor, although it has changed over time, is a mix of retro aspects with the modernity of each era that has seen this store open its doors. From staircases with Egyptian flashes to a tea room, through to a complete customer experience where you can find: 3,000 brands, designer fashion and accessories stores, luxury beauty, fine jewelry and watches, food, furniture and more.

Christmas stories

The big luxury brands have taken advantage of Harrods' shop windows to offer a real spectacle to shoppers and passers-by. For example, it was in December 2022 when Dior offered the installation The Fabulous World of Dior, which combined the brand's history with lights and even pieces made with gingerbread; the news went around the world and attracted thousands of tourists to see more than 40 spots.

On your next visit to the British capital, Harrods is a must-see tourist (and historical) spot.
