El origen de la mezclilla

The origin of denim

A textile material that reinvents itself and becomes a favorite every season.

If there is a common denominator in all the world's wardrobes, it is undoubtedly denim. This fabric shapes garments that we all have (or have had) on a daily basis: jeans, shorts, shirts and jackets.

You only have to go out on the street to discover that denim is a symbol of comfort, but also of style and avant-garde. Pieces made from this fabric are reinvented each season to reaffirm their relevance within the fashion industry.

The origin

With many changes in the world during the 1800s, it is said that this year was the year that saw the birth of denim, particularly in Europe. Countries like England and France required their workers to be dressed in a durable material that would allow for long working hours, as well as protection. In fact, the name “denim” is closely related to the city of Nimes, France, which is believed to have been the first to produce denim.

Curiosities

53 years later, the famous Levi Strauss, born in Bavaria, arrived in San Francisco to start selling denim pants. Yes, it was the origin of one of the most beloved brands of all time and one of the empires of the current industry: Levi's.

Although this type of clothing had already been in circulation since 1853, it was not until a hundred years later, in the middle of the 1950s, when jeans and other creations became popular among young people. From overalls to trousers in multiple styles.

Major high fashion labels, fast fashion empires and independent labels today turn to denim, one of the most produced materials in the world.
