The renowned fashion designer in love with metal with a futuristic feel
Guipúzcoa is a small Spanish province that saw the birth of one of the most media-friendly designers on a global scale, Paco Rabanne (1934-2023).
Her 88th birthday was marked by various episodes that we remember with emotion today. There is no other way to do it; the celebration of those who dedicated their lives to fashion and inspired the entire world is more than deserved.
The context
Fashion was close to him from a young age. His mother worked at Balenciaga as a seamstress and after moving to France with his family, the world of aesthetics captivated him. Later, he decided to study architecture.
1966, the great beginning
That year, Paco Rabanne launched his own label. The label came with an innovative element for its time: the incorporation of alternative materials into clothing; particularly metals and plastics, something completely unusual for the time.
Love for metal
With a clearly futuristic aesthetic and an interest in telling stories through fashion, Rabanne's dresses caught the attention of both fashionistas and the specialized press.
His metallic dresses featured links and materials that revealed unique shades in the light. This dynamic allowed the designer to captivate not only the catwalks and shop windows, but also industries such as film; actresses including Audrey Hepburn herself were part of the list.
Fragrances and more
After a career marked mainly by recognition, the firm left the world of haute couture in 1999. Since then, it has made a strong presence in the fragrance industry. It was not until 2011 that the name Rabanne returned to the world of the catwalks under the creative direction of various names.
The legacy
Although the designer passed away in 2023, at the age of 88, he is remembered today for his contributions to fashion design. Historically, he has received the award as someone who innovated by incorporating elements from other industries (mainly metal) into garments, his time in the seventh art and countless awards or projects dedicated to exalting his history.
